Abstract

1,191,634. Hypodermic needle assembly and packaging therefor. PIERREL S.p.A. 13 June, 1967 '[22 June, 1966], No. 27994[67. Heading A5R. A unit package comprises a hypodermic needle assembly which is intended for use with a tubular vial syringe and which consists of a double-pointed-ended needle and a needle support secured thereto, a detachable cap which encloses that end' of the needle adapted for fitting to the syringe and a detachable cover which encloses the other end of the needle, the cover being removably held in place 'by contact with the needle support and the .cap being removably held in ,place by contact with the cover. As illustrated in Figure 1, a hypodermic needle assembly 10 consists of a doublepointed-ended needle 1 secured "by means of a metal sleeve 4 to a support 5 which is made of plastics material and which consists of a core 6 and a body 7 provided wisth a stop collar 8 and' preferably also with diametrically-opposed 'pins 9 which form part of a bayonet joint the other part of which is formed by appropriate slots provided on a syringe; alternatively, the needle assembly and! syringe may be coupled by means comprising screw threads. A cover 11, which encloses that end 2 of the needle intended to pierce the tissues of a patient, is provided with a seat 12 for receiving the mouth 13 of a cap 14 which encloses that end 3 of the needle intended' to pierce the stopper of a vial. The cover and cap 'preferably are secured together by readily separable spot welds 20 and preferably are made of a material, for example polyethylene, which is permeable to sterilising gases but impermeable to microorganisms.
