Abstract
1,186,144. Control of A.C. motors. G. WAURICK. 16 Feb., 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 7613/68. Heading H2J. An induction motor 2 is started by closing switch 9 so that the mid-points 8 of a delta capacitor network are connected to supply lines 4, the capacitors 5 being arranged in parallelpairs in each arm of the delta. After the main switch 10 has been closed, a large leading current is drawn by the parallel branch circuit 3 to compensate for the lagging current taken by the motor. The switch 9 is opened when the motor reaches full speed, so providing a pair of series-connected capacitors in each arm of the delta network. The magnitude of the leading current is now reduced to compensate for the smaller lagging current drawn by the motor. A relay is connected between the terminals of the motor and is associated with the switch 10 to prevent restarting while the motor is still selfexcited.
