Abstract

1,183,181. Telescopic masts. H. A. COOCH. 27 Sept., 1968 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 9944/68. Heading E1B. A portable telescopic mast comprises hollow sections 1, 2, 3 mounted one within another and pivotally mounted at 4 to a support structure e.g. a wheeled trolley. A pulley system is provided within the mast so that one pull on the cable lifts the mast to the vertical and a second pull erects the mast thus a double sheave pulley system 25, 26 is mounted on the support structure and at the bottom of outer section 1 respectively, a cable 23 passes round this system and round pulley 27 mounted in the top of section 2 and is fixed at 27a in the bottom of section 2. A second cable is fixed at the top of section 1 and passes round a pulley fixed to the bottom of section 3 and is fixed to the bottom of section 2. A lock 30 initially locks the sections together. On rotating winch 24 the three sections lift to the vertical, the lock 30 disengages and the pin 32 is inserted to keep the sections vertical on further rotating winch 24 the sections are caused to separate and extend. Adjustable pedestals 21, 22 may be provided which in operation lift the supporting structure clear of the ground.
