Abstract

1,165,431. Pipe joints; joint-making packing. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 14 June, 1968 [23 Aug., 1967], No. 38820/67. Headings F2B and F2G. A socket 2 has in the bore thereof an annular recess 6 of substantially semicircular crosssection and which receives a resiliently compressible sealing ring 3 of substantially circular cross-section and having an extension 4, the cross-section of which is in the form of a bifurcated limb, the ring being seated in the recess with the extension and part of the ring projecting therefrom. An annular clearance 7 is defined between the socket and a spigot 1 and in which the extension is compressed to maintain the extension in sealing engagement with the socket; the extension extends away from the opening of the socket, may be of reduced thickness between the bifurcated end and the ring and of a rubber which is softer than that of the ring.
