Abstract

1,162,167. Memory protection; magnetic recording. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 23 Aug., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 38749/67. Headings G4C and G5R. [Also in Division H1] In a magnetic memory system, transducers for the movable record medium have selectively-operable shunts to prevent recording in respective storage channels. In a computer system, 9 tracks of a magnetic drum have respective write transducers 20-28. The track number required (optionally from a staticizing register) is decoded together with the information to be recorded to close one of 6 switches 40-45 and one of 3 switches 50-52 to record bits in a selected track, a 1 bit being recorded as a flux reversal. Short-circuiting switches 70, 80, 90, if closed, prevent recording in respective sets of 3 tracks as shown.
