Abstract

1,156,366. Extraction of molybdenum. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 29 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 57542/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division G6] Mo is extracted from aqueous nitric acid solutions by adding H 3 P0 4 sufficient to complex all the Mo as phosphomolybdic acid, and simultaneously contacting the solution with trilaurylamine or a salt thereof, e.g. nitrate, optionally in an organic solvent, e.g. dodecane. The initial aqueous solution is obtained by extracting U and Pu from irradiated U-Mo nuclear fuels, and contains fission products. The extraction may be carried out at 40‹ C. or R.T. in a bank of mixer-settlers, using an aqueous/organic ratio of 1/4 or 1/10 by volume. The P-Mo complex may be stripped from the organic phase with aqueous NaOH or NH 4 OH.
