Abstract
1,145,913. Underground gas storage reservoirs. ACIERES ET MINIERES DE LA SAMBRE, SOC. ANON. 27 May, 1966 [2 July, 1965; 5 May, 1966], No. 23764/66. HeadingF4P. Underground storage of gaseous natural methane is effected by withdrawing atmospheric air from a partially worked gassy coal seam until such time as the air space is occupied by gas exuded from the coal and associated rock formation and then by forcing the natural methane gas at elevated pressure, e.g. 10 atmospheres into the gas-filled workings. The so-stored methane is in part absorbed by the de-gassed coal thereby increasing the effective capacity of the reservoir.
