Abstract
1,128,067. Wagon identification. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. 11 Jan., 1966 [14 Jan., 1965], No. 1324/66. Heading B7N. [Also in Division H4] In an interrogator-responded system for identifying moving, e.g., rail vehicles, the responder apparatus on the vehicle is energized by the interrogation signal when the vehicle is opposite the interrogating track apparatus. Responder apparatus.-A U.H.F. squarewave-modulated interrogation pulse is received by aerial 11, demodulated by rectifier 12, limited in amplitude by Zener diode 13 and applied to a delay line 14 having a delay equal to the pulse duration. The input and output of the delay line are connected via rectifiers 15 to the supply input of four different frequency transmitters 18 and thus enable these transmitters to be triggered on during a period equal to twice the delay time. The identification number to be transmitted, comprising twelve decimal digits, is set out by detachable plugs on a matrix board 16 comprising twelve columns and ten rows. The columns are energized in sequence by the pulses generated in the output windings of the delay line and each pulse is routed in dependance on the plug position to one of ten inputs of an encoder 17. The encoder in dependance on a predetermined code triggers one or more of the transmitters 18 into oscillation and the identifying numbers are thus transmitted in sequence to the interrogator 1. Interrogator.-The response signals are applied via receivers 24 to the input of a decoder unit 25 which energizes its output terminals and hence the rows of display matrix 26 in a sequence dependant on the identifying number. The square wave generator 26 which supplies the interrogating square pulse for modulating the U.H.F. generator 22 also supplies the pulse to a delay line 114 identical to that carried in the responder apparatus whereby the columns of the display matrix are energized at the same time as those of the responder matrix board. Each junction of the matrix is provided with a coincidence circuit, a memory and display lamp and these record the identification number.
