Abstract

1,126,432. Flame-proofing. PROBAN Ltd. 3 Aug., 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 19572/66. Heading DIP. A flame-proof fabric comprising modacrylic and cellulosic fibres is produced by treating the cellulosic fibres or the fabric with a precondensate formed from urea and a methylol and/or aziridinyl phosphorus compound and then effecting curing. The modacrylic fibres comprise 35-85% of acrylonitrile and 15- 65% of vinyl or vinylidine chloride. The cellulosic fibres may be of cotton, flax, jute, aminised cellulose, or regenerated cellulose. The methylol phosphorus compound may be THPC or THPO. The aziridinyl phosphorus compound may be APO or APS. Curing may to effected by treatment with gaseous followed by aqueous ammonia.
