Abstract

A method of forming an open-seamed tube to a desired shape comprises forcing the tube longitudinally into a passage, of the shape to be imparted to the workpiece, formed between a pair of die parts and separating the parts to remove the formed workpiece. The tube is pushed by means 17 from a guide 16 into a curved passage formed by upper and lower die part (11), Fig. 1 (not shown) and 10. Each die part comprises a plurality of grooved members 12 bolted to a platen 14 the base of the grooves of one part 10, being provided with a key 15 engaging the open seam of the tube. The formed tube is removed after separating the die parts 10 and (11). Tubes of non-planar shape may be so formed.
