Abstract
1,116,952. Non-reciprocal phase-shifters and attenuators. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. 31 Aug., 1965 [14 Sept., 1964]. No. 37129/65. Heading H1W. Non-reciprocal phase-shift or attenuation is obtained by producing remanent closed-loop magnetization in a ferrite element having a square-loop magnetization characteristic. The element is situated on the axis of a waveguide and is magnetized in a plane parallel to the direction of propagation. As shown, five elements 11-1 to 11-5 may be selectively magnetized by current pulses applied to appropriate portions of an axial conductor 15. Feeding conductors 17 to 23 extend transversely through half-wave spacing blocks 11-6 to 11-10 which have approximately the same dielectric constant as the ferrite elements. The elements are graded in size and produce phase shifts respectively of #/4, #/8, #/16, #/32, #/64, the last figure representing the incremental phase-shift of the device.
