Abstract

1,113,674. Television receivers. W. ZIPSE. 26 March, 1966, No. 13480/66. Heading H4F. A common structure supports a television receiver 6 and a concave spherical or other curved mirror 10 which is adjustable or pivotable relatively to the screen 7 of the receiver, the effective focal length of the mirror being greater than the distance between the centre of the mirror and the centre of screen 7 whereby the screen may be viewed as a virtual image 7<SP>1</SP>. The mirror is preferably rectangular with a ratio of height to width in the range 3: 4 to 1 : 3 so as to permit viewing towards the sides of the apparatus. The ratio of the radius of curvature of the mirror to the diagonal of the tube screen is between 10: 1 and 3: 1. In addition to the adjustment of the mirror about a pivot 11, the support 3, 4 for the television receiver and arms 8, 9 which support the mirror are pivotable about an axis 5 in base supports 1, 2. Alternative constructions are described with reference to Figs. 2-10 (not shown). The receiver screen, or its protective covering, may be provided with a non-reflecting surface. Furthermore, a transparent plate may be arranged between the screen and the mirror and disposed at such an angle that undesired reflections are prevented. The screen may be provided with a black concave border corresponding in width to the mirror. The pivotable adjustments of the mirror and television receiver may be controlled by electric motors.
