Abstract
1,108,240. Crane aircraft. NORD-AVIATION SOCIETE NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 8 Dec., 1965 [9 Dec., 1964], No. 52150/65. Headings B7G and B7W. An aircraft comprises a transverse girder 1a and a longitudinal girder 1b arranged in the form of a T, lift and propulsion units 2g, 2d, including a ducted fan, arranged at each end of the transverse girder, both units being pivotable about a common axis y 0 -y 0 <SP>1</SP>, and a pilot's cabin 3 arranged at the free end of the longitudinal girder. The girders are of cross-braced lattice construction and a winch 7 and hook 6 are carried at the junction of the girders to support a load 10, which is steadied by slings from near the ends of the transverse girders. The undercarriage, which comprises three legs each pivoted to the end of a girder for retraction in a forward direction when no load is carried, is splayed out to straddle the load. The forward legs 4d, 4g also fold inwardly when retracted (Fig. 3, not shown). Each lift and propulsion unit comprises two gas turbine engines (12a, 12b), (Fig. 2, not shown) driving through shafting ducted fans (13a, 13b). The fan pitch is variable collectively or differentially for control purposes, and the two lift and propulsion units are connected by a transmission shaft (11a extending along the common pivot axis. The fan ducting is hollow to form fuel tanks (21).
