[Also in Division B6] A machine for applying body and neck labels to bottles comprises a continuously rotating label distributer which moves at the same speed as the bottles are conveyed and applies the labels while they are held against rotation. The label distributer 15 has label suction units 23 and holding members 34, 341 with an interposed pressing member 35 mounted on constantly rotating chains so that the units 23 extract a label from a magazine 9 pass it over a gumming roller 8 to the application position. Bottles B fed by a conveyer 4 are spaced by a screw 5 and then held between the members 34, 34<SP>1</SP> and members 38, 38<SP>1</SP> of a second carriage 37 all of which are travelling at the same speed as the conveyer 4 so that the labels are accurately applied by the pressers 35. Application is completed by brushes 40, 40<SP>1</SP> the bottles being rotated as they enter and leave due to the conveyer belts 39 being longer than the belts 39<SP>1</SP> thus pressing the bottles against wads 41, 41<SP>1</SP>. A neck label applicator, also having a suction nozzle, is pivoted forward, to contact the gumming roll 8 and to effect application, by cams. To prevent gumming the nozzle when a label is absent the pivoting cam co-operates with a stud controlled by the reduction of pressure due to a label being held on the nozzle. The magazine 9 is pivoted about a shaft 14 towards the units 23 for label extraction by a cam 10 while the box is moved in the directions f 1, f 2 by a cam 11. A weight in a damping fluid holds a plate 57 against the labels but the pressure is released as the magazine reaches the extraction position.
