Abstract

1,106,452. Gas-filter. HEATHER FILTERS Ltd. 14 April, 1965 [14 April, 1964], No. 15491/64. Heading B1T. A ventilation-system filter comprises a succession of brush filter elements mounted between two chains to form an endless band 5 enclosing a generally rectangular space, air entering the space at the front (Fig. 4 not shown) and leaving through the upper and two vertical side runs of the filtering band, which on its lower run passes through a cleaning chamber 15 where solids are removed from the bristles of the brushes. In the said space the bristles engage, on the downstream side, a restraining mesh screen 11, and as the band 5 is driven anticlockwise by a motor (19) the bristles of successive brushes spring away from the lower, left-hand edge of screen 11 where they enter chamber 15 and are then engaged by a rotary comb 16, comprising two sets of bristles at 180‹ to each other and of material less yielding than the brushes, which is rotated anticlockwise by another motor (18). Solids drop into removable drawers 17. The speed of the band and possibly the comb may be varied by a clock device to allow for varying dust loads in the air. The bristles of the filter elements may be horse hair, nylon or stainless steel or nickel-silver wire and the comb bristles may be nylon. Baffles 13 in the space enclosed by band 5 direct incoming air to band 5.
