Abstract
1,102,985. Thermoelectric devices. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd. 5 Oct., 1966 [14 Oct., 1965], No. 43655/65. Heading HlK. A thermocouple element 12 is inserted into a bore in a protective sheath 6 the end portion 11 of which is then reduced in cross-section to bring the sheath into intimate contact with the hot junction region of the thermocouple element. The sheath 6 is provided with a flange 9 and the assembly is mounted in an aperture 2 in a steam conduit 1 by means of a washer 10, a packing piece 14 and a gland nut 15 which is screwed into a stub tube 4. The reduction in cross-section of the sheath may be achieved by hot or cold swaging, and also causes the crosssection of the thermocouple element 12 to be reduced, thus reducing the thermal mass of the hot junction.
