Abstract
1,097,917. Gas filter element. D. A. G. MARSHALL. Dec. 16, 1966 [Nov. 12, 1965], No. 48126/65. Heading B1T. [Also in Division B5] A gas filter element comprises two plies 10, 12 of filtering, material sandwiching and bonded to a rigid reinforcing mesh 14, 24. Plies 10, 12 may be foamed polyurethane of similar or different pore sizes, or felted or woven glass fibre. Mesh 14, 24 may be plastics, but is preferably steel or aluminium, and in manufacture the mesh is heated and dipped n or sprayed with thermoplastic powder which melts thereon, and plies 10, 12 are pressed on to the mesh. The peripheral edge of the element may be sealed by a coating or bonded strip (16) of plastics [Fig. 2, not shown), or by compressing into a metal or plastics, U- section strip 20. The mesh 14 extends right up to strip 20, or an additional reinforcing strip 22 of nylon or PVC is inserted and bonded in place by R.F. or H.F. welding.
