Abstract
1,096,294. Welding by fusion; soldering. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 23, 1965 [June 12, 1964], No. 24546/64. Heading B3R. [Also in Division F1] A method of making a turbine blade comprises copper brazing or electron beam welding a tungsten carbide or cobalt chrome alloy leading edge shield 13 over a cobalt chrome alloy inner shield 12 and then silver-soldering the latter to the steel blade body at 11. In an alternative method the shield 13 is formed by depositing erosion resistant material on the surface of the shield 12 before or after the latter is brazed to the blade body. Both shields have a melting point of not less than 1200‹ C.
