A liner L is cemented in a well bore by sealing of the space between the liner and bore, introducing cement into the space to flow downwardly about the liner and displace well fluids upwardly through the liner, and after placing the cement closing the bore of the liner. The liner is supported in casing K by a hanger and carries an extension 10, 11, 12. A setting sleeve 13 on a pipe string carries a mandrel 15 on which is rotatably mounted a cross over head 26 fixed to a sleeve 31 resting on the extension and supporting a packer P. A sleeve valve 60 is slidable within the mandrel to control ports 33 connected to the nozzles 30 of the head 26 and has ports 64, 66a. A partial turn of sleeve 13 sets the packer P and rotation of the sleeve unscrews nut 21 to disconnect the mandrel from the extension. A plug P 1 (Fig. 3 not shown) is forced by cement down the pipe string to engage a shoulder 69 in the valve to open the ports 33 and 64 and free a valve 56 carried by the extension. After a predetermined quantity of cement has been forced into the space between the liner and the casing, a plug P 2 seats on shoulder 68 in the valve, the valve 56 resting on seat 58 to prevent hydrostatic pressure from the well fluids above acting on the cement. Wash fluid is circulated down outside the pipe string to return up through the string and the pipe string with the setting sleeve mandrel, packer and sleeve valve are withdrawn from the well, a flapper valve 48, carried by the extension, and the valve 56 closing the bore of the liner against upward or downward flow.
