Abstract

An absorbent non-adherent dressing comprises an absorbent fibrous substrate having bonded to at least one surface thereof an organic film having a series of openings, a substantial number of the exposed fibres of said substrate lying beneath the area of the openings being coated with the organic film substance. The organic film may be a non-tacky thermoplastic organic film e.g. of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, or polyvinyl acetate. The absorbent fibrous substrate may be made of conventional woven or non-woven fabrics. The portions of the substrate lying beneath the areas of the film openings are preferably recessed. The dressing may be made by bonding the film to the substrate and producing the openings in the film simultaneously by pressing heated, short, blunt, protuberances against the film side of a composite body of the film and substrate.
