Abstract

1,062,912. Conveying material from the working face in mines. R. HORSFIELD & CO. Ltd. Dec. 7, 1964 [Sept. 5, 1963], No. 35099/63. Heading B8E. An automatic control system for use with installations for conveying and bunkering coal and other bulk materials, or installations for bunkering and loading into rail wagons or the like such bulk materials as described in cognate Specification 1,062,911, includes means for controlling the movement of the plough along the bunker sections, a load cell for measuring the unit load on the incoming conveyer at the entry end of the bunker a magnetic drum I to store the information until the relevant section of the conveyer reaches the plough when the information is then used to control the speed and direction of the plough over that section of the conveyer. The stored information is picked off the magnetic drum 1 by a rotating arm 3, driven from the plough motor 6, giving a read-out 4 connected together with a plough position tachometer 5 on to the automatic speedcontrolled plough motor 6 through an error detector device 7. The read-out 4 is also connected to the starter switch 8 of the motor driving the incoming conveyer from which the magnetic drum is driven as well as to a device by which the required outflow at 9 is pre-set by an operator. An alternative system, Fig. 2 (not shown) utilizes digital measuring and recording circuits and the plough motor responds to signals of error by corresponding discrete steps of movement. The indicated load 2 on a set length of belt is recorded every time a set movement takes place, is converted to digital form by an analogue-digital converter AD and stored by a group of ferrite cores M, whose pick-off 10 is connected to the read-out 4 and through it to the error detector device 7 and plough motor 6 as in Fig. 1. The connection 11 determines the plough steps taken. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates electrical and hydraulic circuits for a digital control system based on Fig. 2.
