Apparatus for applying transfers, of the type which is releasable with heat and without sliding, to articles such as glassware comprises a flanged table 10 on which the work is clamped by a pneumatically operated rubber block 61, two magazines 49, of which one is shown, for a stack of transfers 50, and suction pads 32 pivotable on the ends of arms 25 and swingable by the operation of a pneumatic piston rod 16 between a position in contact with the top transfer on the stack, which is urged upwards by a pneumatic ram 52, and a position in contact with the work. A pinion 39 on the pad co-acts with a gear segment 24 on a structure 19 to rotate the pad so as to bring its mouth, comprising a perforated resilient surface 38 communicating with a slot connected to the suction pipe 41, against the stack and the work normal thereto. The table and structures 19 are adjustable according to the shape of the work. The various pneumatic devices are operated in the necessary sequence by pedals or by a motor-driven cam shaft. Compressed air jets are provided (not shown) to remove the transfer backing after application to the work, which is heated. The magazines, suction pads, structures 19 and associated mechanism are duplicated, one on either side of the table.
