Abstract

1,052,721. Weighing apparatus. MEPAG A. G. Feb. 22, 1965 [Oct. 2, 1964], No.7500/65. Heading G1W. A pendulum type balance comprising a beam 4 which is pivotally mounted on a support frame 1 and which is provided at one end with a counterweight 6 and at the other end with a pan carrier 9 pivotally mounted on a knife edge 8 and arranged with a strut 12 pivotally mounted between the frame 1 and the pan carrier 9 for parallelogrammatic motion is characterized in that an adjustable vertical taring spring 21 is connected between the frame 1 and the pan carrier 9 and a further generally horizontally disposed spring 23 is arranged between the frame 1 and the pan carrier 9 to compensate for changes in tensile force produced by the taring spring 21 on deflection of the beam 4 due to a load on the pan 10. The tension of the taring spring 21 is adjusted by rotating a threaded spindle 17 so as to position a block 18 which slides in guides 19 in the frame 1 and to which one end of the spring 21 is attached. The compensating spring 23 is set horizontal when no load is on the pan 10 by rotating a spindle 30 to position a first block 28 which is guided by a pin 29 and to which one end of the compensating spring 23 is attached and is suitably tensioned by rotating a spindle 27 to position a further block 26 to which the first block 28 is attached.
