Abstract
1,049,507. Automatic phase-control systems; television. BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION. April 1, 1965 [March 6, 1964], No. 9702/64. Headings H3A and H4F. In a television standards converter an oscillator 15 operating at the L.C.M. (or a multiple thereof) of the two line frequencies is controlled by the generator 10 of the first line frequency through a frequency divider 16 and phase comparator 14, and feeds a second divider 17 producing an output at the second line frequency (or preferably double this frequency) controlling the generator 11 for the second line and field pulses. The divider 17 is coupled to a count-slip gate 19 which, when energized, alters the division ratio, and this is used to synchronize the field pulses of the two systems. The gate 19 is controlled by a bistable switch 20 provided with the first field pulses as one input. A second input to switch 20 may be the second field pulses (switch 21 in position A) so that switch 20 is turned on by the first field pulses and off by the second field pulses. In this case the rate of approach of the field pulses is approximately exponential. More rapid synchronization may be achieved by providing the second input to switch 20 from a coincidence gate 24 which is fed with the second field pulses and with the first field pulses broadened in unit 25 to a value slightly greater than the minimum time interval by which the field pulses can be moved towards each other in one field period.
