Abstract

1,046,901. Suction cleaner nozzles. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES ' Ltd. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 8363/63. Heading A4F. A wheeled suction cleaner nozzle assembly 12 has strip brushes 6, 7, pivotally mounted behind and in front of the nozzle 1, such that the friction forces on the brushes due to the movement in either direction of the nozzle assembly over the surface to be cleaned tend to lift away the then leading brush and urge the then following brush towards the surface. As the nozzle assembly is moved in the direction D the frictional force F1 tends to pivot brush 6 about pivot 10 away from the surface 5 and the frictional force F2 to urge brush 7 about pivot 11 towards the surface 5, the direction of the forces and the pivoting movement being reversed when the direction of nozzle movement is reversed. The brushes may be adjustable in height from the surface, slightly spring loaded downwardly and have suitable limiting stops to prevent jamming. The arms 8, 9 may be resilient instead of pivoted, whilst an underplate having fairing surfaces may be provided to ease manipulation of the nozzle assembly over carpet surfaces.
