Abstract

1,043,210. Laminates. HOWARD CLAY. TON-WRIGHT Ltd. Feb. 25, 1964 [Jan. 5, 1963], No. 615/63. Headings B5A and B5N. An article, e.g. an automobile door handle, comprises an outer skin 16 of metal foil or metallized foil coated with a transparent or translucent plastics material, e.g. cellulose acetate butyrate; and an inner core 19 of rigid plastics material, e.g. cellulose acetate butyrate or phenolic resin. Nylon or " Delrin " may also be used and the core may incorporate a metallic insert 12. As shown, a sheet of metal foil 17 is coated on both sides with transparent plastics 18 and a rough preform of the door handle is made therewith and inserted into a mould the interior surface of which is shaped to define exactly the finished handle. Plastics material 19 for the inner core is charged into the mould and moulded under heat and pressure to form the door handle. Suitable adhesive may be applied to the inner surface of the outer skin or this may be shaped to form a mechanical key with the inner core. The invention may also be applied to a furniture castor.
