Abstract
1,033,890. Structural units for beams, columns, etc.; posts. SOC MEUSIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES. March 15, 1965 [March 17, 1964], No. 10792/65. Headings E1B and E1K. A unit for making beams, columns, &c., comprises four or more elements e.g. tubes round an axis 25, Fig. 1a and overlapping one another in such a manner that, in sequence round the axis and as regards their position along the axis one set of ends are not arranged in progressively ascending or descending order. In Fig. 1a the pairs of opposite tubes 41, 43 and 42, 44 are level but one pair extends beyond the other and is adapted to be engaged with a similar unit turned about its axis through 90 degrees. In Fig. 5a the positions of the ends along the axis are irregularly arranged. Round, quadrantshaped and triangular section tubes are shown also angle irons. The unit may have a central element with a coned end to facilitate engagement. The ends of elements may be connected by a separate double-ended spigot. The units may be curved to make arches, and tapered to make posts. The tubes are secured together by spot welds to form a unit and the ends can be sprung apart for engaging two units together.
