Abstract
Glass-ceramic articles are formed from a glass having as major constituents, at least 90% by weight, SiO2 45 to 82; Al2O3 10 to 36; Li2 0 to 25; MgO 0 to 32 with optional minor constituents consisting of Na2O and/or K2O 0 to 5; ZnO 0 to 10; CaO 0 to 5; B2O3 0 to 10 with, as nucleating agent, an oxide of tungsten and/or an oxide of molybdenum or a metallic phosphate together with an oxide from the oxides of tungsten and/or molybdenum and/or vanadium and/or titanium, the glass article being heat-treated by raising its temperature progressively in a single stage to a temperature at which devitrification takes place so as to form a predominantly micro-crystalline glass-ceramic material. Specific examples are given.
