Abstract

1,017,349. Transistor relay circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 11, 1963 [Nov. 9, 1962], No. 42420/62. Heading H3T. A relay is controlled by a circuit comprising a transistor connected in series or parallel therewith and change-over of the relay at the end of the control signal is delayed by a capacitor connected between base and collector of the transistor. In Fig. 1 the application of a negative input signal at terminal 2 causes the transistor to conduct whereby a relay 10 is operated and a capacitor 13 is discharged via a diode 16. When the signal is removed the capacitor re-charges through a path including a diode 15 and the base of the transistor, maintaining the transistor conducting for a short period and so delaying the release of the relay. The flow of charging current from resistor 2 may be prevented if the resistor 5 is replaced by a diode. In Fig. 2 a negative input signal at terminal 22 causes transistor 24 to conduct whereby a relay 30 is operated and a capacitor 38 is discharged. When the signal is removed capacitor 38 re-charges via the base of a transistor 33 causing transistor 33 to conduct and maintain the relay operated for a short period. In both circuits the relay may alternatively be connected across the transistor or transistors so that their operation instead of relase is delayed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 930,115.
