Abstract
1,011,141. Regulating fluid flow. SMITH DEVELOPMENT CO. June 25, 1963, No. 25274/63. Heading G3H. [Also in Division F2] A flow regulating device comprises a housing 10 having a tapered section 12 formed with an internal substantially square screw-thread 72 which mates with a similary screw-thread 70 of a plug 34. The plug is adjustable axially of the housing by a handle 46 to provide two parallel helical flow paths 74, 76 to regulate the flow in either direction from ports 52, 54. The plug seats on an 'O'-ring 78 to prevent flow. The plug is preferably provided with a passage 36 leading to a passage 40 in the handle stem, the passage having a non-return valve 66 whereby unrestricted flow through the device is provided in one direction. The non-return valve 66 and spring 68 may be reversed in position by removal of plug 58 to allow unrestricted flow in the opposite direction.
