Abstract

1,000,328. Labelling-machines. SOC. FRANCAISE D'ETIQUETAGE VINEY & GARNIER. Oct. 28, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 42330/63. Heading B8F. [Also in Division B6] A machine for applying a label comprises two oscillating suction rollers 3, 4 which remove labels simultaneously from two hoppers 1, 2 and deposit them directly on a gumming roller 5 supplied with gum from a container 9 by rollers 7, 8, each label being removed from the gumming roller by a suction head of a labelling member 10. The suction rollers 3, 4 execute similar and simultaneous motions towards and away from the label hoppers and are mounted on spindles; for example, the roller 4 is mounted on a spindle 4a carrying a gear-wheel 4b which is spring-loaded to engage a partially toothed gear 23 on the gumming roller shaft 24, and carrying a cam follower 4c which bears on a cam 35a on the shaft 24. In operation a disengagement cam 28 on the shaft 24 operates a lever 29 which locks a lower cam 34 on the spindle 4a, so that the roller 4 stops rotating when the gear wheel 4b reaches a toothless section of the gear 23, and then the roller 4 is moved towards the label hopper by the cam 35a bearing on the follower 4c. The pressing device 6, Fig. 2, comprises fingers 14 mounted on a spindle 12 and urged elastically into grooves 5b in the gumming roller 5, and fingers 16 mounted on a spindle 13 and spaced from bands 5a on the roller 5. The passage of a label pushes the fingers 14 out of the grooves 5b and pushes, via stops 15, 17, the fingers 16 against the label. The suction rollers 3, 4 are formed with grooves and ribs which are aligned with the bands 5a and grooves 5b of the gumming roller 5, but which are not in contact therewith. The rollers 3, 4 are each formed with a longitudinal flat in which the main suction heads are disposed and supplementary suction holes are disposed in the ribs.
