Abstract

A communication system 100 includes a server 101 which provides a service to an end client 103 in the wireless network node 109, using a wireless link 111. The service may be a streaming audio or video signal. The communication system further has a network proxy client 113 which controls a characteristic of the server in response to a radio characteristic indication of the wireless link. The network proxy client may specifically control the data rate of the server in response to a throughput indication for the wireless link. The throughput may be obtained from buffer characteristics of a wireless buffer of the proxy client or/and from a buffer of the end client. The proxy client may request retransmission of data packets already transmitted to the proxy client at a different rate in response to the radio characteristic indication (see Fig. 5).
