Field of the invention

The present invention relates generally to the sharing of media content between mobile terminals on board a vehicle and connected to a network.

Invention background

With the recent development of mobile terminals (such as smartphones and tablets) with storage capacities for media libraries (audio and video files, photos, digital book, etc.), most people are constantly left with large amounts of media content on them.

When a person with such a mobile terminal is a passenger in a motor vehicle, they may wish to be able to broadcast their own media content via the display (screen) and / or sound diffusion (loudspeakers) means of the device. infotainment of this vehicle.

To do this, the latter must connect its mobile terminal to this infotainment device (typically by wired connection of USB type or wireless of Bluetooth type) so that said means of display and / or sound diffusion reproduce the display and / or sound of media content hosted and read by this mobile terminal.

One of these terminals, of server type, is also connected to the infotainment device of this vehicle so that said means reproduce the display and / or the sound of the media contents read by this mobile terminal.

The server mobile terminal is configured to draw up a list of all of the media content (for example audio and / or video) which itself and all the other mobile terminals host directly, this list being shared with the other mobile terminals of so that each of them can ask this server to play media content from the list.

The server terminal is also able to identify which of the connected mobile terminals (itself or one of the other mobile terminals) hosts the requested media content and possibly request from this terminal the transmission of this media content via streaming.

Thus, all of the media content hosted by the various mobile terminals can be broadcast by the display and / or sound broadcasting means when only one of them is directly connected to the infotainment device of the vehicle.

However, the possibilities offered by this sharing system remain limited.

Subject and summary of the invention

The present invention aims to provide a more advanced system for sharing media content for a motor vehicle.

To this end, it offers a system for sharing media content for a motor vehicle, comprising an infotainment device installed in said vehicle and equipped with a display screen and / or means for sound diffusion, as well as a plurality of on-board mobile terminals connected to each other via a wireless local area network, one of said mobile terminals being connected to said infotainment device so that said screen and / or said sound broadcasting means reproduce the display and / or the sound of the media content read by this mobile terminal;

characterized in that each of said mobile terminals is configured to establish and update in real time the list of all of the media content that it and all of the other mobile terminals connected to said local wireless network host in their own right, each terminal mobile being further configured to be able to read itself or request playback on one or more of the other mobile terminals of each of the media contents of said list.

The invention thus allows each on-board mobile terminal to have permanent access to all of the media content hosted by the various mobile terminals and to be able to directly start playing them on any of them (and not only as in the prior art on that connected to the infotainment device of the vehicle).

Each mobile terminal acting as both client and server, different media content can also be played simultaneously on different terminals.

Detailed description of a preferred embodiment

The media content sharing system 1 illustrated by FIG. 1 comprises an infotainment device 10 integrated in the central part of the dashboard of a vehicle, as well as a plurality of mobile terminals on board this vehicle 20, 30, 40, 50.

By "mobile terminal" is meant here a telephone of Smartphone type, an electronic tablet, a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), or any other portable electronic device equipped with an operating system such as Google® Android® or Apple® IOS® and comprising a plurality of applications directly integrated into this operating system or downloaded and then stored in a memory module.

The infotainment device 10 comprises a central unit 11 as well as display and sound diffusion means constituted respectively by a touch screen 12 and speakers 13.

The speakers 13 are connected to an amplifier 14 and receive sound signals from the central unit 11 via a digital / analog converter 15.

Conventionally, the central unit 11 manages, autonomously or via the instructions transmitted by the user using the touch screen 12 and / or mechanical control members 16 such as push buttons and / or rotary knobs, the operation of a plurality of functional modules connected to the infotainment device 10 such as the navigation, ventilation / air conditioning modules or the audio and multimedia system.

The central unit 11 comprises a computer 112 provided with one or more interconnected microprocessors, as well as a memory module 114 comprising non-volatile memory of EEPROM, FLASH or SSD type as well as volatile memory.

The non-volatile memory is intended to store different types of data such as the configuration parameters of certain functional modules as well as for example the mapping of the road network.

The infotainment device 10 also includes an access point 17 to a wireless local area network of the Wifi type (Hotspot) to which the mobile terminals 20, 30, 40, 50 are connected.

Although they can be equipped with different operating systems (for example Google® Android® for some and Apple® IOS® for others), the mobile terminals 20, 30, 40, 50 connected to the wireless LAN are capable of communicate with each other via a peer-to-peer sharing application of media content installed on each of them and implementing a multi-platform interoperability protocol such as the Alljoyn® protocol developed by the Allseen Alliance ®.

This application can either be integrated automatically into the operating system of a terminal or can be downloaded from an online application market (for example, Play Store® for Android® or App Store® for IOS®).

The infotainment device 10 is also connected by a broadband connection 18 of the wired (USB) or wireless (Wifi) type to the mobile terminal 20. It also includes a duplication or mirroring solution in English (for example: Apple® CarPlay®, Google® Android Auto® or even Mirrorlink®) allowing while driving, to reproduce in real time respectively on its touch screen 12 (with a suitable visual interface) and on its 13 l speakers display and sound generated by certain applications (including that for sharing media content mentioned above) installed on the mobile terminal 20.

Each mobile terminal 20, 30, 40, 50 comprises at least one non-volatile memory 21, 31, 41, 51 on which are stored media contents, in particular of audio, digital book, photo and / or video type.

Each media content is associated with metadata containing information about this content.

For example for a musical piece, the metadata will include its name, title, author, album name, song number, recording date and notation.

For a photo or a video, the metadata will be different and will contain for example the name of the content, its author as well as the date and the place of the shooting.

Each mobile terminal 20, 30, 40, 50 is configured to establish and update in real time the list of all the media content that it and all the other mobile terminals connected to the local wireless Wi-Fi network host directly. .

To do this, it transmits a request to the other terminals as well as to its own memory requesting the transmission of their only metadata and not of the contents themselves which remain only stored on their original terminals.

The list also contains for each media content, the indication of the mobile terminal which hosts it.

Each mobile terminal 20, 30, 40, 50 is further configured to be able to read itself or request reading on one or more of the other terminals of each of the media contents of the list.

When the mobile terminal chosen to read the selected media content itself hosts this content, the reading is then performed directly from the memory of this terminal.

When, on the contrary, the selected media content is hosted by another mobile terminal than that chosen for playback, the hosting terminal transmits it by streaming in streaming mode (or streaming in English) to the person responsible for reading it.

According to a first example, the smartphone-type terminal 30 in the hands of the front passenger of the vehicle can request that a media content (for example, a film) hosted by the terminal 20 connected to the infotainment device 10 be read on mobile terminals 40, 50 of the tablet type in the hands of two children seated at the rear of the vehicle.

In such a scenario, the terminal 30 will transmit a request directly to the mobile terminal 20 hosting the requested media content and the latter will respond to it by simultaneously sending this media content by streaming to the two mobile terminals 40, 50 so that the latter can read.

According to a second example, the mobile terminal 40 can request that a media content (for example, a musical piece) hosted by the terminal 30 be played on the terminal 20 connected to the infotainment device.

In such a case, the terminal 40 will directly transmit a request to the mobile terminal 30 hosting the requested media content and the latter will respond to it by simultaneously sending this media content by streaming to the mobile terminal 20 so that the latter reads it (l the display and the sound of this media content then being reproduced respectively by the screen and the sound diffusion module of the infotainment device 10).

Each mobile terminal 20, 30, 40, 50 therefore acts according to the circumstances of the client or server, which allows several terminals to simultaneously play media content different from the list (the mobile terminal 20 connected to the information device entertainment 10 reading for example a musical piece broadcast via the speakers 13 of this device, while another mobile terminal located at the rear of the vehicle plays a film the sound of which is broadcast by a headset connected to this terminal).

According to a third example, the mobile terminal 20 connected to the infotainment device can request, via the touch screen of the latter replicating the display of this terminal 20, that a media content (for example, a piece musical) hosted by terminal 30 is read on this same terminal 20.

In such a scenario, the terminal 20 will directly transmit a request to the mobile terminal 30 hosting the requested media content and the latter will respond to it by sending this media content by streaming to the mobile terminal 20 so that the latter plays it (the sound of this media content then being reproduced by the sound broadcasting module of the infotainment device 10).

As soon as one of the mobile terminals 20, 30, 40, 50 leaves the local network by moving too far from the access point 17 (leaving the vehicle) or by leaving the sharing application, all of its media content disappears from the list and the streaming playback operations in progress between this terminal and the others are also interrupted.

Each mobile terminal 20, 30, 40, 50 is also capable of saving the history of the media content read on each of the terminals and of proposing, for those not hosted directly by this terminal, links to one or more platforms of download or streaming (for example, iTunes®, Play Store®, Spotify®, Deezer®, etc.) allowing you to legally acquire these contents.

According to a variant embodiment not shown, the infotainment device does not have a WiFi access point. One of the mobile terminals then acts as a WiFi access point (by activating for example the connection sharing function via the settings of its operating system) to which the other mobile terminals are connected.

According to another variant not shown, the infotainment device is devoid of duplication solution. The latter is then only able to reproduce via its sound broadcasting means (loudspeakers) the sound of the media contents read by the mobile terminal to which it is connected by a wired link (for example, a USB or jack cord) or wirelessly ( for example, in Bluetooth).

Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown, but it encompasses any variant.
