Description
The present invention relates to the authentication of documents for example to prevent fraud in gambling such as games of chance type lottery or paris including sports. STATE OF THE ART During a lottery or a bet, the player must give the organizer a ballot in which the parameters of the draw or the bet appear. In the case of a lottery, on the ballot paper are printed the identification of the draw in which the player participates, the number or numbers chosen, the amount of the bet ... In the case of a bet, on the ballot are printed the identification of the competition on which bears the bet, the team chosen by the player, the score, the amount of the bet ... In return for the delivery of his ballot to the organizer, the player receives a receipt on which the draw or bet parameters are printed. In case of victory, the player must present his receipt to the organizer to recover his winnings.
In order to simplify the management of the games and bets, neither the receipt nor the ballot contains a player identification so that no verification of the identity of the player can be carried out during the delivery of the winnings to the winner. The winnings are therefore simply handed to the holder of the winning receipt so that only the delivery of the receipt conditions the player's compensation. Fraudsters have therefore tried to take advantage of the lack of verification of the identity of the player during the recovery of earnings by developing and producing false receipts. To limit the risk of fraud, it has been proposed to complicate the reproduction of receipts by affixing security reasons on the paper. The printing of these security reasons is, however, more complicated, which increases the cost of the consumable. In addition, the improvements made to the printing devices and other photocopiers now allow these patterns to be reproduced. In addition, receipts and bulletins are generally printed by a thermal process on paper having a heat-reactive or heat-sensitive surface for thermal printing. Thermal printing is indeed relatively inexpensive because the only consumable required is paper but also limits the possibilities of anti-fraud measurement which must be compatible with the printing mode and paper used. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION An object of the invention is to provide a means for complicating frauds by falsifying documents printed by thermal printing while allowing relatively rapid authentication of documents. BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION For this purpose, according to the invention, there is provided a method of authenticating a document having a first face which is thermally printable and which carries at least one marking by thermal printing. The method comprises the preliminary step of providing the document with at least one security pattern visible under infrared radiation and the subsequent steps of observing the first face of the document while it is subjected to infrared radiation and of: - checking the non-visibility of the marking; - verify by transparency the visibility and the conformity of the security reason. Under an infrared illumination, the result of the thermal printing on the first surface of the document is not visible and therefore does not hinder the visibility of the security pattern. Thus, the observation of the first face of the document under infrared radiation makes it possible to verify that this first face has been thermally printed (non-visibility of the result of the printing) and to control the visibility, and therefore the conformity, of the safe reason. The control of the security reason by transparency avoids having to return the document or to provide means of control on the side of each side of the document: this is much simpler and therefore limits the cost of the means made available to the operators in charge of the document. authentication of the document. The invention also relates to a device for implementing such a document authentication method. The device comprises a frame defining a passage for a document having a first thermosensitive face bearing a marking made by thermal printing. An optical capture element and an infrared illumination element are attached to the frame to open into the same area of the passage, the optical capture element being positioned to extend facing the first face of the document when the latter is in the said zone of the passage. Thus, it is necessary to provide at least one optical capture element only on the side of the first face of the document, the optical element making it possible to read the thermally printed marking under a radiation in the visible range and to authenticate the document under infrared radiation. Other features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from reading the following description of particular non-limiting embodiments of the invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES Reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a schematic view of a front face of a document according to a first embodiment of the invention; FIG. 2 is a schematic view of a second face of this document, FIG. 3 represents the first face of this document under infrared radiation, FIG. 4 is a partial schematic view of an authentication device of FIG. FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 3 of a document according to an alternative embodiment. FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 4 of an authentication device according to an alternative embodiment. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The invention is here described in application to the authentication of a gaming receipt such as a lottery. Of course, other applications are possible such as receipts of other games, betting receipts (such as the tierce), goods withdrawal vouchers, deposit receipts, etc. The game receipt according to the The invention is cut from a strip of paper used to successively print a game ticket which is kept by the lottery organizer and the game receipt which is given to the player. More precisely, one face of the game ticket and one face of the game receipt are thermally printed successively and carry identical or corresponding game information and in particular: an identifier of the lottery draw in which the player participates, the numbers played, the amount of the bet made. In addition, the information may include: timestamp information, an identifier of the place where the player has half-cast To recover his winnings, the winning player will have to present his gambling receipt to a representative of the lottery organizer who will verify the authenticity of the game receipt before paying the winnings to the winning player. Thus, the receipt whose authentication is carried out in accordance with the invention, generally designated 1, is cut out of a paper strip having a first face 2.1 formed of a thermosensitive layer allowing thermal printing. and a second face 2.2 formed of a printable layer by conventional methods of printing by deposition or projection of inks. The first face 2.1 of the receipt 1 carries at least one summary marking 3 made by thermal printing. The summary marking 3 includes the game information mentioned above (symbolized here by three sets of alphanumeric characters). It is recalled that thermal printing techniques and the composition of heat-sensitive layers are known per se and will not be detailed here. The second face 2.2 comprises an informative marking 4 printed by conventional printing technologies such as serigraphy, laser printing, inkjet printing, etc. This informative marking 4 includes, for example, the name and the logo of the organizer of the lottery, the conditions of use, all or part of the rules of the game, recommendations, a bar code ... For the sake of simplification, the informational marking 4 is here composed only a barcode extending in the direction of the length of the paper web. The informative marking 4 is made by means of an ink absorbing infrared radiation. Preferably, the informative marking 4 is printed continuously along the length of the strip.
The receipt 1 also has at least one security pattern 5 visible under infrared radiation. The security pattern 5 is here made on the second face 2.2 of the receipt by printing by means of an ink reflecting the infrared radiation. The security pattern 5 is here printed together with the informational marking 4 and comprises two bars arranged at both ends of the bar code of the informative marking 4. These two bars are a little wider than those comprising the bar code. informative marking 4 to improve their visibility. Alternatively, the security pattern may comprise one or more bars included in the barcode or contiguous to it, or have other form and include for example a logo, one or more words (disseminated for example in the marking informative 4 or isolated therefrom), a sequence of alphanumeric characters ... The security pattern can be printed in an ink of the same color as informative marking 4 or in a different color from this ink. As indicated above, the winning player must present his receipt to be able to withdraw his winnings after authentication of his receipt. The authentication method of the invention comprises the step of observing the first face 2.1 of the receipt while it is subjected to infrared radiation and of: - checking the non-visibility of the summary marking 3; 30 - to verify by transparency the visibility and the conformity of the security pattern 5. Because of its printing mode, the summary marking 3 is not visible under infrared radiation.
Due to the use of infrared absorbing ink, the informative marking 4 is not visible under infrared radiation. As a result, the security motif 5 is better visible by transparency because of the non-visibility of the summary marking 3 and the informative marking 4. It will also be provided that the thickness of the paper is sufficiently small to allow this visibility with regard to the contrast, under infrared radiation, the security pattern 5 relative to the paper.
The method is here implemented by means of an authentication device comprising a frame 10 delimiting a passage 11 for the receipt, an optical capture element 12 and an infrared illumination element 13 which are fixed to the frame 10 for to emerge opposite a face 14 of the same zone of the passage 11. The receipt must be introduced in the passage 11 so that its second face 2.2 is oriented towards the face 14 so that the optical capture element 12 extends opposite the first face 2.1 of the receipt when the latter is in said zone of the passage 11. The optical capture element 12 is an image sensor which is sensitive to infrared radiation and which is connected to a screen, not shown, for viewing the images captured by the infrared sensor. The infrared radiation thus arrives here on the received side of the first face 2.1 while the receipt has its second face 2.2 in the vicinity of the face 14. The face 14 is arranged to have a low absorption of infrared radiation. Said face 14 of the passage 11 is even preferably reflecting infrared radiation in such a way that the infrared radiation emitted on the side of the first face 2.1 passes through the receipt and is reflected by the face 14 in the direction of the image sensor for facilitate transparency visualization of the security motif 5.
Le motif sécuritaire peut être un filigrane réa- 30 lisé dans l'épaisseur du document comme représenté sur la figure 5 (le motif sécuritaire 5 y est symbolisé par les lettres « A » et « E »).Alternatively, to increase visibility by transparency of the security pattern 5, it is possible to have the infrared radiation arrive at the receipt on the side of the second face 2.2. This is implemented by means of the authentication device shown in FIG. 6, in which the infrared illumination element 13 is arranged opposite the optical capture element 12. It will be noted that several parameters condition the visibility. security pattern by transparency through the paper web. It is possible to play on one or more of these parameters to improve the visibility of the security pattern, namely: to reduce the thickness of the paper web, to increase the contrast of the security pattern with respect to the rest of the paper web, - increase the area occupied by the security pattern, - increase the opacity to infrared radiation of the ink used for making the security pattern, - increase the power of the infrared beam, - increase the sensitivity of the sensor. Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described but encompasses any variant within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims. In particular, the security reason may have another form than that described and shown. The security pattern may be a watermark made in the thickness of the document as shown in FIG. 5 (the security pattern 5 is symbolized by the letters "A" and "E").
