Description

The invention relates to a seat element of a motor vehicle, such as a headrest, an armrest or a backrest, and to a method of producing such a seat element.
It is known to have monitors inside the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle in order to display various information or to entertain passengers. Monitors for entertaining passengers seated in the rear of the vehicle are for example integrated into the head restraints of the front seats of the vehicle while always being visible from the passenger compartment.
This has several drawbacks. Indeed, the monitor is not protected against shocks and can even cause injury to passengers in the event of an accident since the monitor is a rigid surface against which a user can bump.
On the other hand, the monitor is exposed to dust, which results in faster wear of the monitor. Finally, the monitor is always visible, also from outside the vehicle, which can tempt a potential thief.
The invention aims to overcome these drawbacks by proposing a seat element, such as an armrest, a backrest or a headrest inside which a monitor can be retracted when not in use. It is therefore not visible from the passenger compartment and is protected against impact, dust and theft. In addition, the monitor being housed in the seat element, the risk of injury in the event of an impact with the latter is limited.
To this end, the invention relates to a motor vehicle seat element such as an armrest, a backrest or a headrest comprising a foam body and a covering, the foam body being provided with a through housing in which is fixed the housing of a system comprising a monitor and a housing with which said monitor is associated, said system being arranged to allow the reversible movement in translation of the monitor between a position of use, in which the monitor is placed outside of the housing, so as to be visible, and a retracted position, in which the monitor is housed inside the housing.
According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a method for producing a seat element as described above, comprising the following steps: - placing a cover forming a coating on the surface of a molding cavity; - arrange and maintain the outer shell in the molding cavity; - introduce a foam precursor mixture into the molding cavity; - release the seat element after expansion of the foam; - arrange the internal shell and the monitor inside the external shell; Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear during the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings.
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of front seats of a motor vehicle showing several examples of arrangement of the system in different seat elements. Figure 2 is a schematic perspective representation of a headrest, according to Figure 1, in which is arranged a system comprising a housing and a monitor. Figure 3 is a schematic rear perspective view of the inner shell of the system housing according to Figure 2, in which the monitor is retained.
The system 1 according to the invention comprises a monitor 3 and a housing 4. It can be arranged in different elements of a motor vehicle seat. As shown in Figure 1, this system is for example arranged in a housing 17 provided in a headrest 2, a backrest 18 or an armrest 19 of the seat. The displacement in translation of the monitor can equally well be made substantially vertically, as for an armrest, as shown in FIG. 1, or substantially horizontally, as for a headrest or a seat back.
This movement is lateral for a headrest 2 or a backrest 18 and is done upwards for an armrest 19. This limits the risk of injury in the event of a vehicle impact because the monitor is then in an area between the two front seats of the vehicle.
For simplification purposes, the rest of the description will be made for a system 1 arranged in a housing 17 of a headrest 2.
Referring to Figure 2, the housing 4 is fixed inside a housing 17 opening provided in the foam body of a headrest 2. The housing 4 is molded by the foam body of this support- head and can comprise two parts: an external shell 5, fixed in the housing 17 opening and associated with the foam, and an internal shell 6 arranged and fixed inside the external shell 5.
The housing 4 includes an opening 7 freeing access to the interior of the internal shell 6 and allowing the passage of the monitor 3. This opening 7 opens onto the outside of the headrest 2 and is surrounded by the coating of said support -head. The internal shell 6 is for example fitted into the external shell 5 and fixed to it by reciprocal fixing means, for example fixing clips 8 arranged on the periphery of the opening 7.
The outer shell 5 may include, on one of its faces in contact with the foam, guides 9 opening onto the interior of the housing 4, in order to form a passage for the connection and information transmission cables intended for the connectors of the monitor 3. The guides 9 may have a tubular shape in order to further form a housing for the rods of the frame of the headrest.
The monitor 3 is surrounded by a frame 11 which serves for guiding in translation the monitor 3 in the internal shell 6. The frame 11 comprises a connector (not shown) in order to connect the cables passing through the guides 9 to the electronics of the monitor.
The monitor 3 can occupy two positions, a position of use, in which the monitor is outside the housing 4 and projects from the headrest 2 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, and a retracted position, in which the monitor 3 is housed and retained inside the housing 4 and invisible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, as shown in FIG. 3.
To effect the translational movement, represented by the arrow A in FIG. 2, between the retracted position and the position of use, a leaf spring 12 can be provided. As can be seen in Figure 3, one end 15 of the leaf spring 12 is fixed to the frame 11 near the edge intended to remain inside the housing 4 when the monitor 3 is in its position of use. The other end 16 is fixed to the internal shell 6 near the opening 7. The leaf spring 12 is stretched when the monitor occupies the retracted position, thus when the leaf spring 12 is released, its winding, for example around 'An axis (not shown) provided on the frame 11, causes the displacement in translation of the monitor 3 from its retracted position to its position of use.
The displacement in translation of the monitor 3 from its position of use to its retracted position is effected by pressure on the monitor. A guide groove 13 is provided on the frame 11 to cooperate with a guide rail of the internal shell 6 in order to assist this movement and to control the output speed of the monitor 3.
By pressing on the monitor, the guide groove 13 enters the guide rail and the monitor 3 is retained in its retracted position when the groove 13 is completely inserted in the rail. Additional pressure on the monitor 3 allows the groove 13 to be removed from the rail and the monitor performs a translational movement from its retracted position to its position of use under the effect of the spring blade 12.
A method of producing a seat element 2 comprising a system 1 will now be described.
The advantage of using an outer shell 5 and an inner shell 6 is the possibility of overmolding the outer shell according to the so-called in situ technique, then installing the rest of the system easily, without effort to push in elements in the foam.
The first step of the method consists in placing a cap forming a coating of the seat element on the surface of a molding cavity.
The outer shell 5 is also placed in the molding cavity and held in place by means of specific elements provided with the mold. The outer shell is arranged so that the opening 7 is surrounded by the coating.
A foam precursor mixture is then introduced inside the molding cavity in order to form the foam body overmolding the outer shell 5. In order to anchor the outer shell 5 in the foam, orifices allowing passage the foam may be provided in the wall of said shell.
The seat element is removed from the mold after expansion of the foam. The internal shell 6, arranged with the monitor 3, is then introduced into the external shell 5 and fixed to the latter by means of the fixing clips 8.
The cables are then connected, which are brought by the guides 9 to the internal shell 6 by installing the seat element on the seat frame, to the connector provided on the frame 11 of the monitor 3.
