METHOD FOR THE EXCHANGE OF MULTIMEDIA DATA

  The present invention relates to the field of telecommunications, and more particularly the field of multimedia message exchanges over digital networks.

  Telecommunication systems such as "ICQ" (trade name) described in PCT patent WO9816045 are known in the prior art. This patent relates to a communication system comprising a telecommunications network, a multiplicity of telecommunications terminals that can be connected to this network and used by users, for the purposes of communication via said network.   To overcome this drawback, the invention proposes, in its most general sense, a method for exchanging multimedia messages using at least one server station and client stations connected by a telecommunications network [the Internet network], characterized in that a new registration step is carried out for any new user, consisting in downloading specific software and installing said software on the client workstation, in assigning to the new user a unique identifier [PIN] and in registering in a database of data a space reserved for said new user, and in that each user saves in the memory space allocated to him the

  identifiers of a personal community of users.

  Preferably, the user records in the server database information corresponding to search criteria accessible by other users. According to a preferred embodiment, the server notifies each client station whose identifier is recorded in the space of a user an electronic message when each modification of the communication state between the client station of said user and the

server station.

  According to a particular variant, the specific downloaded software commands the display of a first graphical interface presenting the list of at least part of the interlocutors whose identifier is recorded in the memory space of the user considered, in the form hypertext links, the activation of a link producing the display of a menu for the selection of a functionality of the multimedia message exchange system.   The system consists of user workstations and one or more servers. The server includes a random access memory managed by specific software ensuring the recording of each user's data in a

reserved space.

  The first step is, for a new

  user, to register on the server.

  The server assigns the new user a unique username and password, and creates a memory space for storing the user's personal data. The user completes his registration if he wishes with additional data from a digital form. Registration can be done via a website.
