Description

The present invention generally relates to apparatus for abrasion and microabrasion of human skin, in particular in the fields of cosmetology and dermatology with a view to the treatment and exfoliation of cutaneous unsightly conditions such as scars, stretch marks and stains.

This kind of treatment is traditionally carried out using a small pneumatic or electric wheel, well known to dermatologists, and more recently by devices projecting an abrasive product on the skin like industrial sanders. There are two types of devices called microabrasion devices:
The first type of microabrasion apparatus exploiting European patent No. 0 564 392 A2 is characterized by the use of two independent circuits, the first circuit being activated by a compressor which projects the abrasive product against the skin through a head provided with 'an entry and an exit; the second circuit being activated by a vacuum pump to recover the abrasive product at the outlet of the head.

This type of device has a first drawback, that of the impossibility of putting the two circuits in phase so that all of the abrasive product projected by the first circuit is recovered by the second, in order to avoid the hazardous propagation of the abrasive product on the areas that are not to be treated. The second disadvantage is the risk of sending a jet of abrasive product remotely unintentionally. The third drawback being the very aggressive nature of this type of device and the long duration of scarring that this causes.

The second type of microabrasion device using European patent no. 0 324 448
B 1 is characterized by the use of a vacuum source and has the major drawback of causing, because of the vacuum it generates, edemas and disabling hypervascularizations for the treatments.

This major drawback is accentuated by the use of a closed circuit causing on the one hand the reduction of the arrival of air during its passage through the supply container when the latter is filled with abrasive product. In this case, the treatment is reduced to vacuum suction of the skin, without abrading it, due to the very small amount of abrasive product capable of being entrained by the volume of air thus reduced. this drawback is also accentuated when the filter of the collection container is saturated due to its direct contact with the abrasive product dust. there too, the collection container being vacuum, the treatment is reduced to vacuum suction of the skin, thus causing edema and pain.

The device according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks. It has in fact, according to a first characteristic, a single circuit thus eliminating the need to phase the projection and the recovery of the abrasive product and making any projection from a distance impossible. This unique circuit is permanently open to the ambient atmosphere which prevents any formation of vacuum at any stage of use. The air access is direct, without regulating valve and without slowing the flow of air. air which does not pass through the feed container, the loading of this flow with abrasive product effecting in an external metering device, also open to the passage of air and supplied with abrasive product by means of a vibration mechanism.

From there, the air flow loaded with abrasive product circulates inside the handpiece by touching the surface of the skin through an orifice in contact with the latter, and continues its path towards a recovery bag which retains abrasive product dust and abraded skin cells, without obstructing the air flow to a compressor.

The effectiveness of the system lies in optimizing the circuit so as to constantly achieve a balance between the volume of air displaced, its load of abrasive product and the speed at which this mixture touches the surface of the skin.
