The present invention relates to a fluorescent or phosphorescent composition, a device for painting the composition and a device for light excitation of said composition when the product resulting from the composition is solid. Usually products with a fluorescent or phosphorescent light effect are present either in liquid form or in solid form. The fluorescence and phosphorescence properties of a product depend on the environment in which the product is found. It is in liquid media that the parameters can best be adjusted to obtain the optimum fluorescence or phosphorescence. In fact, the parameters of the medium influencing the fluorescence and the phosphorescence are: the solvent effect, the viscosity and the Ph (when one is in an aqueous medium). Liquid media have an advantage more when they are transparent because the fluorescence or phosphorescence effect is integrated over the entire volume of the product, whereas opaque media provide only surface effects for the product. However liquid media can only be presented in closed containers or structures, it follows a difficulty of use and a risk in terms of security because the transparent container is always liable to break or flow liquid possible, knowing that these liquids are not neutral with regard to health, use in the general public field is not possible. For example, fluorescein which has its optimum fluorescence in water at ph 10 cannot be presented in this form in a public place without security risk.
Japanese patent J01040577 describes a product containing a fluorescent dye and gelatin, however this patent does not have a pH adjustment and does not use the tanning properties of gelatin. Hydrated gelatin mixed with an organic solvent which may or may not be miscible has the property of solidifying by tanning by reaction with a tanning product (formalin, chromium alum, glyoxal, etc.). Gelatin in an aqueous medium gives the possibility of adjusting the parameter of Ph, it is therefore therefore possible to have there an environment optimized in Ph for the effects of fluorescence and phosphorescence, the addition of a fluorescent or phosphorescent product in this medium gives light effects in optimal conditions. The addition of a tanning agent does not change or very can change the light properties of the medium thus formed, the physical tanning of this medium does not alter the light properties described above.
Certain fluorescent or phosphorescent products have better behavior when they are in an organic solvent, two possibilities are then offered depending on whether the solvent is miscible with water or not. If the solvent is miscible with water, it will suffice to dilute the fluorescent or phosphorescent organic composition in the aqueous gelatin, the tanning properties remaining the same as in the preceding case or may obtain the effects described above in an aqueous medium, in fact this is only a special case where the fluorescent or phosphorescent compound is an organic solution made of a fluorescent or phosphorescent product dissolved in an organic solvent. If the organic solvent is not miscible with water we will do an emulsion of the fluorescent or phosphorescent organic solution in the gelatinous medium, here again it can be considered that this is a special case for which the compound does not dissolve in the aqueous gelatinous medium but it remains trapped in the meshes tanned gelatin (of course after physical tanning of the gelatin, before the tanning takes place or takes care to keep a homogeneous structure by playing on the viscosity parameters in general and by varying the temperature in a particular way) .The composition according to the invention makes it possible to obtain a transparent solid product which has the fluorescence or phosphorescence properties usually characteristic of transparent liquid products. .
The product obtained by the composition according to the invention when illuminated by a light source with excitation wavelengths of fluorescence or phosphorescence can be used for special light effects for decoration or signaling. A light excitation device according to the invention makes it possible to obtain these special effects without using direct lighting. A second device according to the invention allows the product to be used as a coating or a paint.
The composition according to the invention is composed of one or more fluorescent or phosphorescent products in a gelatin swollen in an organo-aqueous medium whose concentrations of water, organic solvent and Ph are adjusted to the optimum of fluorescence and phosphorescence , there is then added a product tanning gelatin so as to solidify the product optimized in fluorescence and phosphorescence. The product resulting from the composition according to the invention can be molded or spread on any support. a light excitation device according to the invention consists in placing an optical fiber one end of which is in the solid product obtained from the composition according to the invention and the other end of which receives light concentrated at the wavelength of d excitation of the fluorescent or phosphorescent product. a painter or coating device according to the invention consists of a brush or a roller supplied by a removable reservoir itself containing an electric heating resistance allowing the liquid to be kept at a given temperature, it suffices to have at its disposal the product of the composition according to the invention in two parts in which the gelatinous organo-aqueous fluorescent solution is found for the first part and the tanning agent for the second part. The first part is put in the heating tank of the brush, once the optimal temperature reached the tanning agent is introduced into the tank. The painting or coating operation can then be done, by cooling on the walls to be painted, the product solidifies by freezing and then tanning.
The product resulting from the composition according to the invention can be produced according to the following nonlimiting example: A basic solution with sodium carbonate is repaired so as to have a Ph of 10.5 then diluted in this solution is fluorescein, the dissolution is done by successive additions until a yellowish tint satisfactory to the eye is added gelatin so as to have 7% by weight of gelatin. It is left to swell and then it is heated until complete homogenization. The product is poured into a flat mold and then formalin is added at the rate of 30 centilitres per liter, then the product is left to tan. After a few hours the product has a solid appearance. A transparent solid plate was thus produced which has the same fluorescence properties as fluorescein in water at Ph 10 which is the fluorescence optimum for fluorescein.
