Abstract

The invention relates to a keypad intended for an operator who controls a computer system in general and it is suitable in particular for a blind operator who uses Braille code. The invention contains, between the ergonomic keypad with dedicated keys (1) for each finger and a Braille composition zone (2), situated in front, a row of control keys (Li) arranged in a line (3) but having a smaller height than the keys of the keypad dedicated to the fingers, in order to allow the fingers to touch a Braille composition zone without being hampered by the height of the control keys arranged in a line, the keypad of the keys dedicated to the fingers fits perfectly in the hollow of the relaxed hand (4) of the operator when touching the composition zone or actuating the control keys arranged in a line. The keypad according to the invention is intended in particular for apparatuses for the blind.

Description

The present invention relates to a keyboard for an operator who controls a computer system in general and is particularly suitable for a blind operator who uses braille codes.

Traditional keyboards for Braille devices are placed in line and to remedy the problem which arises because of the different natural length of the fingers of the human hand, the keys are sometimes of an elongated shape vertically so that the fingers can touch them simultaneously without much difficulty. Even in the latter situation, the operator's position is not always convenient.

The keyboard according to the invention overcomes this drawback. It consists in fact of a keyboard which mainly contains up to 10 keys, one for each finger of each hand arranged in such a way that the relaxed fingers of the two hands each rest on a key; the keyboard is symmetrical about an axis that passes through the operator's hands and that each group of 5 keys is separated into 2 sub-groups, one formed by a single key larger than normal intended for the thumb and the other more distant from the operator which is composed of 4 keys placed in such a way that the index finger is in the axis of the thumb key and that the keys corresponding to the ring finger and middle finger are farther from the operator than the keys corresponding to the index and little finger; the relative position of the button corresponding to the ring finger relative to the button corresponding to the middle finger can be at the same level, more distant or closer, the buttons corresponding to the thumb of both hands can be touched and the buttons corresponding to the index finger can touch or be separated; between the ergonomic keyboard with dedicated keys for each finger and a braille touch pad, located in front, is a row of command keys arranged in line but with a lower height than that of the keys of the keyboard dedicated to fingers to allow fingers to touch a braille touchpad without being bothered by the height of the control keys arranged in line, the keyboard of the dedicated finger keys is perfectly placed in the palm of the operator's relaxed hand during the touch of the touchpad or the action of the control keys arranged online.

The single FIGURE 1 represents a front view and a side view of the keyboard according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention. The keyboard represented in FIG. 1 comprises ten keys dedicated to the ten fingers of the hand (1), thumb ( P), index (I), middle finger (M), ring finger (A) and little finger (R). Between a touch pad (2) and the keys dedicated to the fingers are several control keys arranged in line (3) marked with
L1 to L9 and which are much lower in height than the dedicated keys to allow a hand (4) of the blind operator to touch the touch pad (2) without being hindered by the row of control keys arranged online since the dedicated keys (1) enter the palm of the hand (4) relaxed during the touching of the touch pad (2) or the action of the control keys arranged in line (3).

BRAILKEY.
An exemplary embodiment of an ergonomic combination keyboard in accordance with the invention is found in the BRAILTEL, BRAILBOX, BRAILPEN and
BRAILKEY.
