Abstract

The packing box is made from a single sheet of corrugated cardboard and has two sides (14) and ends (11) and an integral lid made up of two end flaps and a plain side flap. The top side flap has an integral carrying handle. The carrying handle consists of a separately cut strip (23) integral with the end tabs (28) which are stuck down to the ends of the container. The cut away sections (26) allow the handle to be lifted. There is a tear off strip (18) around the container at the top for opening.

Description

 The present invention relates generally to packages which are made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard, or other suitably cut and grooved sheet material, and more particularly relates to those of these packages which must have a grip handle to facilitate handling. by users.

 Most often, such a gripping handle is constituted by a strip made of a material distinct from the material of the package concerned and suitably attached thereto.

 Cutting and setting up such a strip require operations distinct from those necessary for the sole formation of such a package and thereby put a significant burden on the overall cost of the latter.

 As regards, and this is particularly the case for globally parallelepipedic packaging, a packaging comprising, for its closure, a closing flap, it has however already been proposed to precut, in such a closing flap, a strip suitable for forming by itself a grip handle.

 But when, in particular for sealing reasons, with such a closure flap in which a strip is thus precut, hereinafter said for convenience, 7 central closure flap, it is associated with other closure flaps and, in particular, two flaps for closing, hereinafter, for convenience, lateral closing flaps, which are arranged below the central closing flap, and each of which comes from a line of root fold perpendicular to that of the latter, the presence of these other closing flaps under the strip forming a grip handle of the central closing flap seriously limits the possibilities of engagement of the hand under such a strip, to the detriment of the comfort of the user.

 The present invention generally relates to a provision which, for packaging of this type, makes it possible to avoid this drawback and also leads to other advantages.

 More specifically, the present invention relates in particular to a packaging made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard, or other sheet material, suitably cut and creased, of the type comprising, for its closure, a closure flap, in which a strip is precut suitable for forming a grip handle, and on either side of this central closure flap, on the side of the ends of the strip precut therein, two closure flaps, hereinafter called lateral closure flaps , which are available below the central closing flap, and each of which comes from a root fold line perpendicular to that of said central closing flap, this packaging being characterized in that, in combination, of a on the other hand, the strip intended to form a grip extends beyond the central closing flap, by means of lugs extending the latter at the ends of said strip, and on the other hand, in line with said ends, the line folding root of each of the lateral closing flaps split locally, in its median zone, into two twin fold lines connecting to each other at their ends, it also relates to a blank in one piece suitable for the realization of '' such packaging and the resulting blank packaging blank.

 In practice, each lateral closure flap being, by its root fold line, in continuity with a side panel, the fold lines dividing according to the invention the root fold line of such a closure flap in its median zone define between them a cutaway, which extends obliquely, both with respect to said closure flap and with respect to the side panel with which it is in continuity.

 Of course, in the case where, for the sealing reasons already mentioned above, the central closing flap and the lateral closing flaps it is also associated with the fourth closing flap, hereinafter said, for convenience, flap lining closure, which, with an area substantially equal to that of the central closure flap, covers the lateral closure flaps between them and the central closure flap, provision is made to limit at least locally the extension of this closure flap of lining relative to that of the central closing flap, to leave the cut sides formed according to the invention free in the median zone of the root fold lines of the lateral closing flaps, the lateral edges of said lining closing flap having for example each for this purpose a notch.

 Anyway, thanks to such cut sides, combined with an extension of the strip forming a grip handle beyond the central closing flap, when the user passes his hand under this strip and exerts on it a pull, the ends of such a strip penetrate into the overall parallelepipedal volume of the entire package, thanks to the clearances made locally in the latter without any rupture in sealing, by said cut sides, so that, despite the fact that the overall tightness of the packaging is thus preserved, said strip can advantageously be deployed in a loop, above the closure flaps of the packaging.

 The user can therefore largely engage his hand under this band, and his comfort is ensured.

 In addition, at its ends, the strip forming the gripping handle according to the invention advantageously extends obliquely with respect to the lateral tabs of the central closure flap from which it originates, so that this obliquity being favorable for maintaining these tabs pressed against the side panels to which they are secured, for example by gluing, the resistance to tearing of these tabs, and therefore the tensile strength of the strip, are thereby strengthened.

 In addition, at its ends, this strip bears on the cut edges according to the invention, so that, due to the friction in contact with these cut edges, its tensile strength is further enhanced.

 Anyway, thanks to the invention, a significant saving is obtained compared to packages equipped with an attached handle.

 As illustrated in FIG. 1, a blank 10 suitable for constituting a package according to the invention generally comprises, in one piece, a succession of side panels 11, 12, 13, 14, articulated two by two by transverse fold lines 15.

 Conventionally, in this FIG. 1, as well as in the others, the fold lines have been represented in broken lines and the cut lines in solid lines.

 As regards the production of a generally parallelepipedic packaging, the side panels 11, 12, 13, 14 form an alignment, and they are each generally quadrangular: side panels of smaller surface area, and these are panels side 11, 13, alternate with upper surface side panels, and these are side panels 12, 14, and the transverse fold lines 15 connecting them two by two are all generally parallel to each other other.

 At one end of such an alignment, the corresponding extreme side panel 11, 14, and in the example shown is the side panel 14, is, beyond a transverse fold line 15, bordered by a securing tab 16 whose role, known per se, will appear below.

 In the embodiment shown, the alignment of side panels 11, 12, 13, 14 is, longitudinally, in continuity with a panel. side to side, affected, over its entire length, by a tear strip 18, which also affects the securing tab 16, and which, formed between two pre-cut tear lines 19, is, in its median zone , fitted with a clean wire 20 to facilitate detachment.

 This arrangement is well known in itself, and not forming part of the present invention it will not be described in more detail here.

 On one side of the alignment of side panels 11, 12, 13, 14, which in practice corresponds to the filling opening of the package to be formed, the blank 10 according to the invention laterally comprises a plurality of closing flaps 11 ', 12', 13 ', 14', which, by an individual fold line 21 generally 'perpendicular to the transverse fold lines 15, are each respectively in continuity with the side panel 11, 12, 13, 14 correspondent.

 For convenience, the closing flap 12 ′ corresponding to the side panel 12, which is a side panel of larger surface, is said here central closing flap, the closing flaps 110, 13 ′ which frame it or are intended to frame it, here are said side closing flaps, and the closing flap 14 'corresponding to the side panel 14, which is also a side panel of larger area, is said here lining closure flap.

 In practice, the closing flaps 11 ′, 12 ′, 13 ′, 14 ′ being intended to be superimposed, their root fold lines 21 are offset from one another, to take account of their thickness.

 In a manner known per se, in the central closure flap 12 ′ is precut, parallel to its root fold line 21, a strip 23 which, delimited between two tear lines 24 interrupted locally by detachable retention points 25, is clean to form, as will appear below, a grip handle.

 In the middle zone of this strip 23, and on either side of it, are formed two cutouts in the shape of a half-moon 26, to allow gripping.

 According to the invention, and in combination, on the one hand the strip 23 thus intended to form a grip extends beyond the central closure flap 12 'which it affects, by means of tabs 28 extending this at the ends of said strip 23, and on the other hand, the root fold line 21 of each of the two lateral closing flaps splits locally, in its median zone, into two twin fold lines 21A, 21B connecting one the other at their ends.

 In practice, the tabs 28 extending the central closing flap 12 'are foldable at right angles, and they are connected for this purpose to this central closing flap by fold lines 29, which are generally parallel to the transverse fold lines. 15, and which are locally intersected by the tear lines 24 delimiting the strip 23, these tear lines 24 extending on the tabs 28.

 In the embodiment shown, the free edge of the tabs 28 has a semi-circular shape, and the cutout of these tabs 28 is taken from that of the lateral closure flaps 11 ′, 13 ′, so that the presence of these tabs 28 , necessary for the strip 23 to extend beyond the central closing flap 12 ′, does not involve any additional consumption of material when cutting the blank 10.

 In addition to their fold lines 29, the tabs 28 are also, in the embodiment shown, assigned to two tear lines 30 capable of being superimposed, as will appear below, on the tear lines 19 of the side panels 11, 13.

 Furthermore, in the embodiment shown, the fold lines 21A, 21B locally split the root fold lines 21 of the closure flaps 11 ', 12', 13 ', 14' extend generally symmetrically on either side 'other of such a root fold line and are both of generally circular outline, their concavities being directed towards each other.

 The contour of the facet that these two fold lines 21A, 21B delimit two by two is therefore in a spindle in the embodiment shown.

 Laterally, on the other side of the alignment of side panels 11, 12, 137 14 relative to the closing flaps 11 ', 12', 13 ', 14', the blank 10 according to the invention further comprises, in the embodiment shown, for the formation of a bottom for the packaging to be formed, closing flaps 11 ", 12", 13 ", 14" which, like the previous ones, are each in continuity respectively by a root fold line 21, with the corresponding side panel 11 12, 13, 14.

 In the embodiment shown, these are closing flaps of the same type as the previous ones, without the presence, of course, of a gripping strip and of the arrangements associated therewith.

 However, it could obviously be closing flaps of different types, and in particular, in a manner known per se, closing flaps suitable for forming an automatic or semi-automatic type bottom.

 These provisions being known by themselves, and not being the subject of the present request, they will not be described in detail here.

 In a manner known per se, the blank 10 thus formed can be made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard, or other sheet material, suitably cut and creased, the creasing of this blank leading to the formation of the fold lines and tear lines specified above. -above.

 In the example of implementation shown, and as it is better visible in Figure 2, the blank 10 is thus made of corrugated cardboard.

 Preferably, in this case, and for reasons which will appear later, the creasing tools 32 used for the formation of the tear lines 24 delimiting the gripping strip 23 are, as shown in broken lines in FIG. 2, connected to each other by a punch 33 adapted to cause this strip 23 to be crushed.

 In other words, the strip 23 according to the invention has a thickness e less than that E of the current part of the central closure flap 12 in which it is precut.

 To form a packaging blank according to the invention, the side panel 21 and the closing flaps 14 ′, 14 "which surround it, are first folded over the rest of the blank 10, by folding 1800 around the corresponding transverse folding line 15, FIG. 3A, and the securing tab 16 is then coated with glue, as shown schematically by hatching 35 in this FIG. 3A.

 The side panel 11 and the closing flaps 11 ′, 11 "which surround it are then folded in turn over the rest of the blank 10, by folding 1800 around the corresponding transverse fold line 15, so that, at the end of such a folding, the side panels 11 and 14 are secured to one another by the tongue 16 previously glued, Figure 3B.

 The packaging blank 36 thus obtained is advantageously available flat.

 It forms a tubular sheath.

 At its places of use, and for the formation of the desired packaging 37, such a packaging blank 36 is very quickly and easily placed in volume, by exerting pressure on these two opposite edges, as illustrated by the arrows F1 in FIG. 3B.

 After this setting in volume, the closing flaps 11 ", 12", 13 "and 14" are suitably folded at right angles, for the constitution of the desired background (not shown in the figures).

 The package 37 according to the invention is then ready for use, FIG. 4A.

 After filling, the lateral closure flaps 11 ′, 13 ′ are bent at right angles, and the same is done for the lining closure flap 14 ′, which is superimposed on the previous one, FIG. 4B.

 According to the invention, for each lateral closure flap 11 ′, 13 ′, the fold lines 21A, 21B locally duplicating the root fold line 21 of such a lateral closure flap delimit them, at the end of the angle folding thereof, a cutaway 38 which, as can be seen in detail in FIG. 6 for the single side closing flap 11 ′, extends obliquely both with respect to such a closing flap that 'with respect to the side panel there with which this one is in continuity.

 In the embodiment shown, such a cutaway 38 has a tapered outline, and, longitudinally, between these end points in a lancet, it is generally curved, with its concavity facing outward.

 The lining closure flap 14 ′ is then glued; in the example of implementation shown, and due to the reduced thickness e of the strip 23 intended to form a grip handle, its gluing affects the entire surface, as shown schematically by hatching 39 in the figure 4B, so that it is advantageously possible to use, without modification, for the treatment of the packaging according to the invention, a usual packaging line suitable for the treatment of packaging of this type already known to date.

 The central closing flap 12 ′ is then folded at right angles, which leads it to join the lining closing flap 14 ′ over its entire surface, with the exception of the precut strip 23 which it comprises. , this being set back with respect to this lining closure flap 14 ′ because of its reduced thickness.

 The paws. 28 extending the central closing flap 12 ′, which themselves have previously been nested, as shown diagrammatically by hatching 40 in FIG. 4B, are in turn folded square, which leads them to join together to the corresponding side panels 11, 13, Figure 4C.

 As will be noted, the package thus closed comprises a central closure flap 12 ′ in which a strip 23 suitable for forming a grip handle is precut, and, on either side of this central closure flap, on the side of the ends of the strip 23 precut therein, two lateral closing flaps 11 ', 13', which are arranged below the central closing flap 12 ', and even below a closing flap lining 14 'in the embodiment shown, and each of which comes from a root fold line 21 perpendicular to that of said central closure flap 12'.

 As will be noted, the sealing of the package thus closed, which is ensured by the superposition of the lateral closure flaps 11 ′, 13 ′, the lining closure flap 14 ′, and the central closure flap 12 ', is in no way affected by the fact that a gripping strip 23 is precut in the latter.

 During the handling of the packaging according to the invention by a user, it suffices for the latter to engage two fingers under this gripping strip 23, by means of the cutouts 26 provided for this purpose on either side of this, then pull on this gripping strip 23, along arrow F2 in FIG. 5, to ensure, first, the detachment thereof, vis-à-vis the central closing flap 12 ′, by breaking the points retention 25, and then deployment in the loop, as shown in FIG. 5.

 This deployment in handle is authorized by the fact that, at its ends, the gripping strip 23 can locally penetrate into the overall volume of the package 37, thanks to the clearances provided therein by the cut sides 38 according to the invention, the lining closure flap 14 ′ leaving these cut sides 38 free by its notches.

 I1 is sufficient to allow the user to largely engage his hand under the gripping strip 23, this therefore forming a handle facilitating the handling of the packaging 37.

 As will be noted, the tensile force which is the object, during such handling, the gripping strip 23, is, at the ends of the latter, oblique with respect to the tabs 28 of which this gripping strip comes from, according to arrow F3 in FIG. 6, so that there results, inwards, a component favorable to the maintenance of such tabs 28 pressed against the corresponding side panels 11, 13, the force applied to these legs thus no longer being a single shearing force.

 In addition, as will also be noted, the gripping strip 23 carries locally, at its ends, against the cut sides 38 according to the invention.

 To gain access to the interior volume of the packaging7, the tear strip 18 is, in a manner known per se, eliminated.

 Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, but encompasses any variant.

 Thus, in particular, in a manner known per se, the precut strip intended to form a grip handle is in practice advantageously doubled by a reinforcing strip of synthetic material or fabric, the latter being able for example to when the treated material is corrugated cardboard, be placed within this material, when it is made up.

 Thus, in addition, the lining closure flap 14 'is not essential, the lateral closure flaps can for example join the other.

 The present invention is also not limited to the implementation of the single corrugated cardboard more particularly envisaged above.

 For example, the blank 10 may consist in a composite manner on the one hand of a single thickness cardboard, and on the other hand, in line with the only side panels, of a corrugated cardboard, added locally to the previous one, or incorporating it.

 In this case, the gluing of the lining closure flap 14 ′, which may moreover be substituted the gluing of the central closure flap 12 ′, is carried out so as to spare the pre-gripping strip 23 cut out therein. .

 Finally, the field of application of the invention is not limited to that of parallelepipedic packaging, nor to that whose access to the interior volume is by topping, as above, but extends to any which type of packaging has a central closure flap and below it, two lateral closure flaps.
