Abstract

The respiration assistance comprises a flexible band which passes around the patient's torso and fits into a cylindrical element in the front. The two sides of the band pass around rollers inside the cylinder, and then round an inflatable bulb. When the bulb is inflated by an external device, it expands and pulls the band into the cylinder so tightening it around the patient's chest. This forces the air out of the lungs. The pressure of the fluid in the inflation system is controlled by an adjustable safety valve.
