Abstract

The portable reduction gear train (C) with stand (P) is used to increase the effective torque applied to a nut or bolt by a spanner or tommy bar, e.g. for tightening automobile wheel nuts. Hypocycloidal gears are used with an input pinion (1) meshing internally with a crown wheel (2). The pinion axle (7) extends laterally to provide e.g. a hexagonal section end suitable for engagement by a spanner and the crown wheel axle (8) extends in the opposite direction to accommodate a socket head (16) engaging a wheel nut. The gears may be housed (3) with bushes (5, 6) locating the axles, the housing being mounted on a telescopic column (18, 19) stand with a radial locking screw (22).
