Abstract

The frame with a self-locking pivoting safety bar is used in the controlled feeding of livestock, being applicable to enclosed quarters or the free range, and avoiding waste whilst reducing risks. The feeding animal triggers the locking mechanism which has a relatively quiet action, the unit being movable and coverable whilst eliminating the need to tether the beast. Having a short barred 'L' shape promoting a self-righting action, the bar may be pinned to a two railed frame with vertical posts. To gain access to a trough the beast may lower its head into a gap defined by the bar when in the open position. The neck of the beast encounters an adjustable cantilever arm thus, pivoting the bar back to the vertical where it is retained by a pivot bolt. Release may be effected by hand lever actuated linkage to a sliding rail.
