Abstract

The device comprises a platform (1) with two dials, a gyroscope (2) carried by the core (3) of this platform (1), means for detecting the vertical (4), and a processing unit (5) receiving signals coming from the platform (1) and signals coming from the means for detecting the vertical (4). This processing unit (5) calculates, from the aforementioned signals, the angle of offset between the axis of rotation of the gyroscope (2) and the direction of north. The bearing of the vehicle is calculated from the two components of this angle of offset and from a signal representing the distance covered by the vehicle.
