Abstract

The tongue depressor is used medically for intubation and comprises a handle provided with an articulated head. This latter has a U-shaped cross-section, one leg (21) being longer and equipped with a flange (22). This head narrows in width and thickness to a flat point (17). A sleeve is passed down the groove (67) formed by the U - section and a bundle of optic fibres inserted into it. The tube for the intubation is passed down and the optic fibres illuminated from a light source at the side. The concentrated light permits accurate guidance of the tube down the throat.
