Abstract

Menstrual tampon comprises a strip or panel of absorbent material tightly wound and/or compressed into cylindrical form. In use, the ends of the cylinder can be termed 'inner' and 'outer' ends, and the outer end is fitted with an extn. cord. The inner end of the tampon is now fitted with a manipulation cord which is used to form an axial cavity at that end to contain a vaginal medicament, e.g. ointment, powder, capsule etc. The manipulation cord is secured pref. some way into the tampon from the inner end. By pulling this cord radially and holding it under tension while rotating it around the axis of the tampon, two effects are achieved. First, the required axial cavity is formed in the inner end and second the inner end outer dia. is enlarged do that the inner end is conically divergent from the generally cylindrical shape. The manipulation cord is conveniently a continued extension of the extraction cord.
