Abstract

The transmission cable uses optical fibres and comprises a plastics central formed section (1) with continuous spiral slots (11) which are regularly spaced on th circumference of this core. Conventionally clad optical fibres (2) are placed in there slots together with one or more sheaths (4) which seal the slots. The depth of th slots is sufficient to avoid the sheath exerting any pressure on the fibres. These are free of strees and free within the slots. The core has a regularly spaced series of longitudinal armatures (3), e.g. wires, or formed sections, around its geometrical axis. These armatures are buried in the plastic material and ensure an adequate tensile strength for the cable.
