Abstract

Novel polymers are prepd. by reacting a polyimide of formula (I) with a polyamine of formula (NH2)p-B (II), and a dianhydride of formula (III): (where D is Y-C(=CH-)-, -CH-CH-CH-CH2-CH-or of formula (IV); Y is H, CH3 or Cl; v is 0 or 1; A is 1-30C organic gp. of valency n; n >=2; B is a 1-30C organic gp. of valency p; p >=2; Ar is homo- cyclic or heterocyclic trivalent aromatic gp. the 3 valencies of which are on different C atoms, comprising one ring or several rings fused or linked by a single bond, an atom or a divalent gp.; Ar' is as Ar but divalent; R1 is divalent satd. aliphatic or alicyclic gp., or aliphatic-alicyclic, aromatic-aliphatic gp or -(R-O-)tR-; R is satd. aliphatic gp.; t is an integer; and m = 1-10). The amts. of reactants are such that (1) there are 1.2-5 imide gps. per NH2 gps. and (2) (III) is 5-30 wt. % of (I) + (II) + (III). The polymers are used for prodn. of mouldings, partic. by casting or compression, with good mechanical strength and durable thermal stress resistance. The polymers can be used in combination with usual fillers and for prodn. of laminates using (non-)woven reinforcing fabrics.
