Abstract
Circular guides (4) are supported on a framework (5) and are in vertical planes. The guides carry a number of weights (1) which can move round the guides and which slide on radial spokes (2) fixed rigidly to a shaft (3). The shaft may be moved by mechanical means away from the centre of the guides and in a horizontal plane so that the shaft and guides are eccentric in a working state of the machine. The eccentricity ensures that the torques applied to the shaft as the weights move about the guides is unequal on opposite sides of the shaft, thus causing the shaft to rotate.
