Abstract

The dynamo is driven from the crankshaft by a belt and pulley system as in a normal vehicle, but coupled to its pulley wheel by two special pulleys, with a second belt drive. The two pulleys are each fitted with conically shaped pulley surfaces, one of which is stationary while the other is moved by centrifugal force. One of the pulleys has its conical surfaces pushed apart by increasing centrifugal force while the other has them moving together. This alters the gearing ratio of the belt drive and, with preset springs etc., the belt drive can be adjusted to give a constant dynamo drive over a wide range of engine speeds.
